报告摘要:
One of the main challenges in architectural geometry is the design of freeform façades, the design must be segmented into manufacturable panels, which calls for a coarse discretization, while the panels still need to capture the curvature of the original design.
To address this, I present two novel mesh-like structures in Möbius and Laguerre sphere geometry. The first discretizes a surface using spherical panels only; the second allows spherical, conical, and flat panels. For both, I study the underlying geometry and develop initialization and optimization methods to approximate input designs.
In the Laguerre case, the smooth limit of the structure leads to an extension of the classical surface-theoretic notion of conjugacy, called L-conjugacy. It is then used to panelize positively curved designs.
报告人简介:
I am a Ph.D. candidate in Applied Mathematics and Computational Science at KAUST, originally from Ecuador. I began as a theoretical physicist at Yachay Tech University, and my growing passion for geometry led me to study discrete differential geometry, computational geometry, and geometry processing.
My current work focuses on the discretization of freeform designs using classical sphere geometries, namely Möbius, Laguerre, and Lie sphere geometries. I build computational pipelines that turn these geometric theories into practical tools for architectural design.
I co-authored a paper that received the Best Technical Paper Award at SIGGRAPH Asia 2023, and I was named to the KAUST Dean’s List in 2023 and 2024.
