报告题目:Parallel and distributed sparse optimization
报告摘要: Sparse optimization has found interesting applications in many data-processing areas such as machine learning, signal processing, compressive sensing, medical imaging, finance, etc. Based on existing sparse optimization algorithms and parallel computing techniques, this talk introduces algorithms tailored for extremely large scale sparse optimization problems with terabytes of data. The talk introduces ideas that enable the state-of-the-art sequential algorithms for parallel and even decentralized processing of big data. Besides the typical complexity analysis, we analyze the increased iterations and communication overhead due to parallelization or decentralization. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate the scalability of the parallel codes for handling tera-scale problems on Amazon EC2.
